First Look at DB Eyewear by David Beckham

David Beckham looks great in sunglasses. Whether shielding himself at the royal wedding, enjoying the tennis at Wimbledon, or protecting himself from the sun during his stint at LA Galaxy, the man has form when it comes to sunglasses-style.

It comes as no surprise, then, that the former soccer superstar and current international style-icon now has his own range of shades. DB Eyewear by David Beckham was unveiled in January 2020 with the first collection being made available for Spring/Summer 2020.

Beckham designed the sunglasses in collaboration with Italian sunglasses manufacturer Safilo. According to the brand, the glasses are a collection of retro-influenced designs offering timeless style.

This is reflected in a quote by the star himself, who said that he “set out to create glasses that would never go out of style. Special pieces that I would love to wear myself.”

The initial collection has all the retro-influences you’d expect from a range with the above description. There are wayfarers, aviators, and teardrop frames in tortoiseshell and Havana colorways.

It’s not a copy and paste job, though. The collection puts its mark on these classic designs by introducing details such as sharper angles, top bars, or by playing around with the thickness of the frames.

Overall the collection is a large one. Narrowing it down, standouts include the pilot-style DB 1000/S worn by Beckham in the Instagram post above, the DB 7002/S in the Ruthenium Grey Horn color-way, and the DB 7007/S with its square frame and flat-top.

The collection won’t be available until March, although you can pre-order the glasses over at Luisaviaroma if you don’t want to wait till then. The frames range from 169 to 268 EUR. You can check out the full collection at the DB Eyewear by David Beckham website.
