What is it about the 60s that made it such a year-zero for fashion? Despite us now being at the beginning of 2020—60 years on from the start of the decade—we continue to look back at the period with a ton of fashion-nostalgia.
The Man From U.N.C.L.E shows perfectly how timeless the style back then was. Watch the movie and it is impossible not to notice how much the clothes they are wearing look bang on point, even now.
Nowhere is this more the case than in the sunglasses. It’s almost eery how on-trend the acetate aviators Henry Cavill wears in The Man From U.N.C.L.E are in 2020. The chunky shades have multiple features that we think make them a great choice as we enter the new decade.
First is the shape. The oversized-fit and heavy-brow mean they check two of the boxes that we think will be most relevant in 2020. The two-tone color-scheme is another trend we’re really looking forward to rockin’ over the next year.
All these features combine to create a pair of shades that are as forward-thinking as they are retro.

The Man From U.N.C.L.E Sunglasses: Where to Buy Them?
In the movie, Henry Caville wears Thierry Lasry Bowery sunglasses. Unfortunately, the brand no longer sells the glasses, although you can enquire about them on the website.
The good news, however, is that there are plenty of similar designs out there. Thierry Lasry’s Fatality in Black and Light Blue Gradient (pictured below) shares many similarities with the Bowery including the shape, heavy-brow, and two-tone color scheme. Also, the brand’s Robbery glasses have a similar shape but without the gradient colors.

Outside of Thierry Lasry, other brands do similar styles. Albeit, with these shades we are moving further away from the original design.
Cutler and Gross’s 1353-02 Matte Midnight Rambler Blue & Gold Sunglasses have a similar chunky aviator-style design. The shades also have a two-color design, albeit by combining acetate and metal rather than using two-tone acetate.
Gucci’s aviator-style sunglasses in blue and white are another good option and have a similar color scheme to the original The Man From U.N.C.L.E. sunglasses worn by Henry Cavill.
Moving onto more affordable designs, Quay Australia’s Nemesis Navigator is an oversized aviator with a heavy brow, although you lose the two-tone color.
