Winter’s over and the weather’s starting to heat up. And while I welcome sunshine into my life with open arms, hot weather isn’t always the best time for dressing well. In fact, I (and I’m sure many others) will spend a significant part of the upcoming warmer months in a simple t-shirt and jeans.
There’s nothing wrong with this look. It’s comfortable, easy to pull, and there are plenty of combinations you can choose to make your outfit stand out. But, it’s not always the most exciting look. And by June and I’m normally sick of it.
With this in mind, I’ve decided to look at ways to make the style a little more interesting. So here are 9 some ways to wear a t-shirt and jeans.
How to Wear a T-Shirt and Jeans Without Being Boring
1. Choose an Oversized T-Shirt

Oversized t-shirts have been popular for a few years now and that’s unlikely to change any time soon. Choosing a good one and then pairing it with your jeans is sure-fire way to ensure that your t-shirt and jeans outfit looks up-to-date and modern.
There are plenty of oversized t-shirts to choose from, with those from Uniqlo being both affordable and highly rated. Oversized t-shirts look good with plenty of styles of jeans too, from skinny pairs to baggy ones.
2. Choose a Modern Jeans Fit

Men’s jeans trends have moved significantly beyond dark slim-fit denim. And experimenting with these styles is another way to bring a modern edge to your t-shirt and jeans outfits.
You can start with a slightly wider fit than you are used to, like in the image above from Urban Outfitters, before moving onto to anything from flared pants to those with denim patches, panels, or even embroidery.
3. Experiment With Different Materials

The majority of t-shirts in your closet are likely to be cotton. But you can make your outfit more interesting by choosing a different material. For example, Zara has a selection of cool knitted zip t-shirts that are sure to stand out.
4. Choose a Unique Pattern

Patterns on t-shirts are nothing new. I’m a huge fan of Breton stripes and always have a couple of these t-shirts in my wardrobe. But, it doesn’t have to end with stripes. I’m currently seeing plenty of more off-beat geometric patterns and colorful tie-dye.
5. Go classic
The above two points are modern takes on men’s t-shirt and jeans combinations. But there is always room for the classic pairing of a well-fitting t-shirt and a pair of dark slim-fitting denim.
The key is to ensure the t-shirt fits well: this means the bottom of the shirt should fall below your belt, the shoulder seams should lie on the edge of your shoulder, and it should be enough room on the torso so it doesn’t stretch over any part of your body.
6. Dress it up with a blazer

T-shirt and jeans is a casual look, but it’s also possible to dress it up with a blazer. This is especially fitting at the moment due to the abundance of post-pandemic casual and relaxed tailoring. It’s easy to find a blazer that you can dress down with a pair of jeans and t-shirt.
7. Tuck it in

Tucking a t-shirt into jeans can be a strong look. To pull it off, the same rules apply as if you were picking a shirt into pants: be sure to choose a t-shirt that is relatively slim-fitting to avoid bunching around the waist and make sure it’s long enough to so that it doesn’t keep coming undone.
Also, make sure you’re wearing a good-looking belt. Personally, I prefer this look when paired with boots or leather shoes rather than sneakers.
8. Choose a white t-shirt and dark jeans

The color of your t-shirt and jeans combination is important to get right. A white t-shirt is probably the easiest to pull off, and it can go with everything from light-wash denim to navy and black shades.
If a plain white t-shirt isn’t exciting enough, choose one with a pattern— I always like Breton stripes.
9. Add a cool pair of sunglasses

Sunglasses are surely the king of warm-weather accessories, and a pair will complement any other t-shirt and jeans outfits. I personally like Wayfarer or Clubmaster-style glasses, but you should choose a pair that suits your style and face shape.
